Is Sublimation Food-Safe?

Yes, sublimation itself is food-safe – but it depends on the material being sublimated onto.

Explanation:
In sublimation printing, colour pigments are heated and infused into the surface of the material. When a food-safe base is used (e.g., a ceramic mug with a special polyester coating that is TÜV-certified and compliant with § 31 LFGB), the final product is also food-safe and free from harmful substances.

Important:

  • Sublimation on suitable ceramic or metal surfaces with food-safe coatings is safe for contact with food.

  • Sublimation on unsuitable materials, however, may pose risks.

So when purchasing sublimation mugs, make sure to look for relevant certifications like TÜV or LFGB to ensure they are truly food-safe.

All Subli-Print® mugs, thermal bottles, and thermal cups are coated with a food-safe sublimation glaze.
