Is sublimation food-safe?
Is Sublimation Food-Safe?
Yes, sublimation itself is food-safe – but it depends on the material being sublimated onto.
Explanation:
In sublimation printing, colour pigments are heated and infused into the surface of the material. When a food-safe base is used (e.g., a ceramic mug with a special polyester coating that is TÜV-certified and compliant with § 31 LFGB), the final product is also food-safe and free from harmful substances.
Important:
Sublimation on suitable ceramic or metal surfaces with food-safe coatings is safe for contact with food.
Sublimation on unsuitable materials, however, may pose risks.
So when purchasing sublimation mugs, make sure to look for relevant certifications like TÜV or LFGB to ensure they are truly food-safe.
All Subli-Print® mugs, thermal bottles, and thermal cups are coated with a food-safe sublimation glaze.
